Hijiori Kokeshi are a traditional style of kokeshi dolls originating from Hijiori Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Like other kokeshi, they have a simple cylindrical body and a round head, but the Hijiori style is known for its slightly rounded shoulders, narrower body, and delicate hand-painted floral patterns, often in red, green, and black. These dolls began as souvenirs for visitors to Hijiori’s hot spring resorts and have been passed down as part of Japan’s folk craft tradition, representing both regional identity and artistic heritage.
