Shoichi Sato born on November 10, 1935, as the eldest son of woodworkers Sato Minosuke and Kikuno, at 181 Kitazaimokucho, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Around 1973, he began to actively work on kokeshi, devoting himself to the challenge of restoring many Shusuke dolls. He was awarded the Outstanding Skills Medal by the prefecture and the country (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare), and was also awarded the Yellow Ribbon Medal in 2000 and the Pola Traditional Culture Award in 2007.
In his later years, he opened the " Kokeshi Studio Sanpaku " at 2-36-22 Nakayama, Aoba-ku, Sendai, and continued to make kokeshi dolls and banga. He passed away on January 19, 2024 at the age of 89.
