Tsuko-Tegata wooden passport. Location: Takayama 高山, Gifu Size: 10x7.5x1.8cm Takayama is a city in Japan's mountainous Gifu Prefecture. The city is famed for its biannual Takayama Festival, going back to at least the mid-1600s, celebrating spring and fall with parades featuring ornate, gilded floats and puppet shows. Tsuko-Tegata is a kind of wooden passport that was used in the Edo Period as an identity card for travelers when passing from region to region. They had been sold a lot in Showa period as mingei type souvenirs all over Japan. It's also a protector for safety and peace for family. #VTT23 #passportkyo
