This traditional Tsuko-Tegata (通行手形) wooden plaque comes from Myōjō-ji (妙成寺), a historic Nichiren Buddhist temple located in Ishikawa Prefecture, known for its important cultural buildings and serene temple grounds.

Carved from natural wood in the classic pentagonal shape, the front features bold calligraphy reading 妙成寺, accompanied by a delicate illustration of a pagoda—one of the temple’s iconic architectural highlights. The warm wood grain enhances the contrast of the black ink and red accents, giving the piece a refined yet rustic character.

On the reverse, the inscription 交通安全 (traffic safety) expresses its protective purpose, while traditional vermilion seals lend the charm an official, talismanic quality. A small metal bell is attached with a cord, producing a gentle, calming sound when moved—believed to ward off misfortune and protect the bearer during travel.

Finished with a braided cord and subtle decorative elements, this tsuko-tegata serves both as a meaningful souvenir of Myōjō-ji and as a symbolic charm for safe journeys, peace, and spiritual protection.
