VTT125 - Tsuko-Tegata from Bihoro Tōge 美幌峠

This Tsuko-Tegata from Hokkaido is crafted in the shape of a traditional geta sandal, blending regional charm with folk beliefs. The brightly colored front features an adorable yellow fox-like mascot and the phrase “HOKKAIDO LOVE,” referencing the beloved Ezo fox, native to the area and a symbol of northern wilderness.

In Japanese folk belief, geta sandals were thought to ward off evil spirits, thanks to their distinctive "karan-koron" sound when walking. This sound was said to keep negative energy at bay, making geta-shaped charms popular as protective talismans. In particular, miniature geta like this one are often used to wish for safe travel, good health, or success.

Attached to the strap is a small green wooden tag reading 美幌峠 (Bihoro Tōge) a scenic mountain pass offering sweeping views of Lake Kussharo in eastern Hokkaido.

Accented with a thick rope strap, red tassel, and rustic bell, this Tsuko-Tegata embodies the nostalgic feel of vintage Japanese travel. A perfect item for collectors who appreciate regional folk culture, spiritual talismans, and the whimsical charm of Japan’s northernmost island.

Size: 6 x 10 x 4cm
