The front features a bold and ornate depiction of a traditional Hida-Takayama festival wheel motif—resembling a large festival float wheel or a stylized wagon wheel. This motif, printed in black and gold, associated with the decorative wheels of Takayama's famous yatai (festival floats), part of the region’s celebrated spring and autumn festivals.
Tsuko-Tegata is a kind of wooden passport that was used in the Edo Period as an identity card for travelers when passing from region to region. They had been sold a lot in Showa period as mingei type souvenirs all over Japan. It's also a protector for safety and peace for family.
