Location: Naruko Gorge 鳴子峽, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan
Size: 7 x 10 x 1.5cm
It features a delightful illustration of two Naruko-style kokeshi dolls, a folk art specialty of the region. Known as one of the “Three Famous Hot Springs of Ōshū,” Naruko Onsen is a historic destination with deep cultural roots, and its traditional kokeshi dolls are iconic symbols of Tōhoku craftsmanship.
The tag’s front is beautifully adorned with calligraphy reading 鳴子 (Naruko) and 桃渓の鳴子峡 (Tōkei no Narukokyō), with a small bell and red cord for tying. The back is marked with hand-stamped vermilion seals and stylized calligraphy, giving it an authentic vintage shrine charm.
Tsuko-Tegata is a kind of wooden passport that was used in the Edo Period as an identity card for travelers when passing from region to region. They had been sold a lot in Showa period as mingei type souvenirs all over Japan. It's also a protector for safety and peace for family.
