Vintage Kokeshi from 1960s. Sato Teruo born on June 30, 1919 in Togatta Onsen as the second son of Toyoji Sato. After graduating from elementary school in 1931, he moved to Tokyo to work at a tin toy factory, but the factory went bankrupt in 1934, so he moved to Nakamamachi, Fukushima, and worked at Kanno Kikukodo (specializing in paulownia wood). From the late 1950s, he began making Shizusuke-style dolls, and restored the elegant style of his first work.
