TB93 - Japan Hagi-yaki yunomi / tea cup 萩焼

Vintage item never used. This refined yunomi (tea cup) is a work of Hagi-yaki (萩焼) pottery, crafted by Eisen (栄泉), an artisan continuing the celebrated ceramic traditions of Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

The cup is coated in a soft, milky glaze that beautifully highlight the clay’s natural warmth. Fine crackle patterns (kan’nyū) emerge across the surface, evolving in depth and tone over time as tea seeps into the glaze—a hallmark of Hagi ware’s wabi-sabi beauty, where imperfection and change are embraced as part of the vessel’s living character.

At the bottom, the distinctive 切足 (kiri-ashi) or “cut foot” design not only reflects Hagi’s traditional kiln craftsmanship but also provides a sense of lightness — as if the vessel gently floats above the surface. Beauty found in imperfection, transience, and natural irregularity.

Balancing rustic simplicity with refined craftsmanship, this yunomi embodies the quiet elegance of Hagi-yaki and the subtle artistry of Eisen’s hand—an ideal vessel for mindful tea moments.
