TB64 - Vintage Kutani-yaki Yoshidaya Teapot 九谷焼 吉田屋

TB64 - Vintage Kutani-yaki Yoshidaya Teapot 九谷焼 吉田屋

Vintage item, never used. This vintage teapot is a fine example of Kutani-yaki (九谷焼) porcelain, specifically in the Yoshidaya (吉田屋) style, one of the classic Kutani traditions originating in Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture. The teapot features the distinctive side handle (kyūsu) design, traditionally used for brewing Japanese green tea.

The surface is adorned with vibrant hand-painted enamels in rich tones of green, yellow, blue, and brown — hallmark colors of Yoshidaya ware. The design depicts floral and foliage motifs, framed by intricate dot and line patterns that add texture and depth. The glaze has developed a fine network of crackle (crazing) over time, enhancing its vintage charm and authenticity.

The balanced form and meticulous brushwork showcase the craftsmanship of Kutani artisans, making this piece not only a functional teapot but also a collectible work of art. A small seal mark near the spout identifies it as a genuine work in the Yoshidaya style.
