This Mino-yaki (美濃焼) coffee cup set, crafted by Tatsumi Kiln (辰己窯), embodies the timeless beauty and understated elegance of traditional Japanese pottery.
辰己窯（Tatsumi Kiln）is a traditional Japanese pottery studio known for its quietly refined and deeply natural approach to ceramics.
At Tatsumi Kiln, the potters embrace the character of their surroundings—using local clay dug from the hills, crushed stones and minerals from nearby mountains, and natural ash glazes made from plants such as pampas grass. This commitment to local materials gives their work a distinctive tone and texture, reflecting the earth and landscape of Koishiwara itself.
The kiln uses wood-fired anagama and noborigama kilns, traditional climbing kilns that produce subtle, unpredictable variations in color and surface. During firing, ash carried by the flames settles on the clay and melts into the glaze, creating natural gradations and textures that make each piece completely unique.
The set includes six matching coffee cups and six saucers, neatly presented in a wooden kiri box (桐箱) bearing the kiln’s signature and calligraphy.
