This is a ceremonial kinpai cup 金盃, crafted in gold-plated metal, 24K gold plating process (純金鍍金 junkan tokin). It features the zodiac animal with the year of dog, It is presented in a wooden box lined with dark blue fabric, indicating that it is a commemorative item.
The word 金盃 (kinpai) literally means “golden sake cup”. It is a traditional vessel in Japan, and while it can technically be used for drinking, its main uses are ceremonial and symbolic: In weddings, New Year celebrations, or other important occasions, sake is sometimes shared using a special cup like a kinpai. Drinking from a golden cup symbolizes purity, prosperity, and good fortune.
