Never Used. This elegant Aizu Ryūmon-yaki (會津流紋燒) futaoki (蓋置) is a fine ceramic rest used during the Japanese tea ceremony to hold the kettle lid or, alternatively, to support the handle of a ladle. Crafted in the traditional Ryūmon-yaki style, the piece features soft, flowing glazes of pale blue with subtle lavender undertones, accented by earthy brown along the rim and base. The glaze effect creates a natural, almost mist-like texture, embodying the refined rustic beauty valued in tea aesthetics.

Ryūmon-yaki, one of the kiln lines within Aizu Hongo-yaki, is distinguished by its unique use of flowing glazes. Subjected to the intense heat of the kiln, the glaze naturally shifts and streams, creating organic, fluid patterns that resemble landscapes shaped by wind and water. Just as in nature, no two pieces are ever alike—each vessel carries a unique expression and individuality born from fire and chance.

Its cylindrical form is both functional and graceful, making it suitable not only for chanoyu practice but also as a small stand for resting a teapot/ small cooking pod lid in daily use. Presented with its original green storage box, this futaoki is a harmonious blend of practicality and artistry, reflecting the quiet elegance of Aizu ceramics.

Size: 6.5 x 6.5 x 6.5cm
