TB34 - Japan Tea Cup Kiyomizu-yaki 清水焼
Never Used with the orignal box. This is a pair of exquisite Kyō-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki (清水焼) tea cups, handcrafted by the artisan Ikko (一光).
The design is called 鉄砂金笹 (Tessa Kinsasa), meaning “Iron-sand glaze with golden bamboo grass.” The cups are finished in a deep, refined iron glaze with a soft, speckled texture, onto which elegant gold-painted bamboo leaves are delicately applied. This combination symbolizes resilience, purity, and refined simplicity, embodying the essence of Japanese aesthetics.
Each cup showcases the hallmark characteristics of Kiyomizu ware, a traditional Kyoto pottery style celebrated for its elegance, fine craftsmanship, and artistic decoration. They come in their original wooden tomobako box (桐箱), inscribed with the title and sealed with the maker’s mark, signifying authenticity.
These yūnomi (湯呑, tea cups) are not only functional for daily tea drinking but also hold artistic and cultural value as collectible Kyoto ceramics.
