A refined set of five lacquered meimei-zara crafted in the tradition of Aizu-nuri (会津塗), the celebrated lacquerware of Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture. With a history of over 400 years, Aizu lacquerware is admired for its durability, smooth finish, and elegant decorative techniques.

Each plate features a rich vermilion-red lacquer ground with subtle circular brush patterns visible beneath the glossy surface, reflecting careful craftsmanship. The center is adorned with a graceful Nanten (南天) motif executed in delicate maki-e. The nandina plant—known as “heavenly bamboo”—is a traditional auspicious symbol in Japan, believed to ward off misfortune and invite good fortune, making these plates especially suitable for celebratory and New Year occasions.

The gold and red berries stand out beautifully against the deep lacquer background, creating a refined yet warm seasonal aesthetic. These plates are perfect for serving wagashi (Japanese sweets), small appetizers, or for use in tea gatherings and formal table settings.

The set comes with its original storage box.
