TB206 - Rabbit Kogo from Ikuta Shrine 生田神社
This charming rabbit kōgō (香盒) from Ikuta Shrine (生田神社) is a gentle and auspicious incense container, shaped as a seated white rabbit with softly rounded form, pink ears, and vivid red eyes. Its calm expression and matte white finish give the piece a pure and serene presence.
Ikuta Shrine, located in Kobe and traditionally founded in 201 CE, is one of Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines. It is dedicated to Wakahirume-no-Mikoto (稚日女尊), a deity associated with vitality, protection, and harmonious relationships (縁結び). The shrine has long been revered as a guardian of the region and a place where prayers for good fortune and prosperity are offered.
The rabbit motif symbolizes good fortune, agility, and the swift fulfillment of wishes. As a shrine-related piece, it carries an added sense of blessing and spiritual meaning.
Please note there is a small chip on the side, visible upon close inspection. This minor imperfection does not affect its functionality. A meaningful and devotional object, this rabbit kōgō makes a lovely addition to a tea utensil collection or shrine-themed display.r
