TB17 - Vintage leaf-shaped Oribe-yaki dishes
Total New. Never used. This exquisite set of leaf-shaped Oribe-yaki dishes (碟皿) is a masterful work by ceramic artisan 秀峰 (Shūhō). The design showcases the hallmark traits of 織部焼 (Oribe ware) a traditional Mino-style ceramic that flourished during the late 16th century—known for its dynamic glazes, natural motifs, and distinctive asymmetry.
Each dish is delicately crafted in the shape of a leaf, elegantly curved and rimmed, with vivid green and turquoise hues that flow organically across the surface. The signature 釉下冰裂紋 (yūka hyōretsumon / underglaze crackle pattern) gives the surface a fine, frosted texture resembling ice crystal fractures—an intentional aesthetic achieved through controlled kiln firing and glaze contraction.
These dishes come in a complete set, including:
- 1 large plate
- 5 small plates
- Original signed tomobako (共箱) with hand-brushed calligraphy and red seal from the artist.
Use: Ideal for serving wagashi, appetizers, or as decorative display pieces. This set exemplifies the balance between nature-inspired form and refined craftsmanship that defines Oribe ware. A timeless addition for collectors, tea ceremony practitioners, or anyone with a deep appreciation for traditional Japanese ceramics.
