Known for its soft, earthy texture and serene glaze, this particular piece is an exquisite example of "粗陶" (sotō) a rustic, unrefined ceramic style that emphasizes the natural beauty of the clay and the artisan’s touch.
The cup is finished with a smooth gradient glaze that transitions from a rich, deep jade green at the rim to a soft, misty white at the base. This ombré effect evokes a sense of tranquility reminiscent of mountain mists or forest dew. Gold calligraphy on one side features celebratory kanji characters (祝米寿), which commemorate "Beiju" (米寿) – the 88th birthday, a milestone of longevity in Japanese culture.
