TB124 - Arita ware plates by Ryūhō Kiln 龍峰窯
2 large vintage plates made by Ryūhō Kiln (龍峰窯) titled Misome (魅染), created by the Ryūhō Kiln, is a porcelain plate inspired by the classical elegance of Ko-Imari ware (古伊万里). Ryūhō Kiln rooted in the long and distinguished tradition of Arita ware. Arita, in Saga Prefecture, is the birthplace of Japanese porcelain, where production began in the early 17th century after kaolin was discovered in the region. From this discovery grew a thriving ceramic culture that combined technical innovation with refined artistry.
Arita ware (有田焼) became Japan’s first true porcelain, known for its durability, luminous white body, and brilliant painted decoration. Within this tradition, Ko-Imari ware—exported through the port of Imari—developed its signature palette of cobalt blue underglaze and vivid overglaze enamels in red, green, and gold. The visual exuberance and celebratory tone that defined early Imari works form the historical foundation upon which Misome is built.
Its beauty unfolds in a harmonious blend of deep cobalt blue, vibrant vermilion, and shimmering gold, all set against a luminous white porcelain ground. The design follows the traditional radiating layout associated with early Imari aesthetics, giving the plate a sense of order and rhythm while allowing each motif to breathe with its own character.
