TB112 - Kutani-yaki Lidded Tea Cup Set by Roko 芦湖

TB112 - Kutani-yaki Lidded Tea Cup Set by Roko 芦湖

Vintage item, never used. This pair of lidded teacups exemplifies the refined artistry of Kutani-yaki (九谷焼), one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic traditions. Created by the craftsman 芦湖 (Roko), the set showcases hallmark Kutani characteristics, vivid colors, intricate hand-painting, and graceful form.

Each cup features a beautifully rendered floral motif dominated by chrysanthemums, symbolizing longevity and joy in Japanese culture. The flowers are painted with delicate linework in soft greens, whites, and golds, accented by tactile raised gilding typical of high-quality Kutani enamel work. Subtle gold gradients are brushed across the surface, giving the cups a soft luminosity.

The lids mirror the cup designs, each topped with a polished gold knop that adds a luxurious finishing touch. Inside, the smooth ivory glaze contrasts with the exterior’s detailed decoration, and faint intentional crackle in the glaze enhances the traditional aesthetic.

The set is housed in its original wooden kiribako, hand-inscribed with calligraphy identifying it as Kutani ware and signed by the artist. T
