This is the later work of Bunkichi Sato, although his early style was Hijiori. We can see his creativity Sosaku kokeshi of him with the black and grey checkered patterns on his body. Due to the condition selling it for lower price. Bunkichi Sato Born on August 14, 1922, as the eldest son of Sato Jinkichi and Toshio in Nozoki, Mogami County, Yamagata Prefecture. His mother Toshio was the fifth daughter of Sato Mokichi of Togatta, and was adopted by Sato Bunroku at the age of three. During the postwar kokeshi boom of the 1950s and 60s, he was one of the most popular craftsmen. Bunkichi himself had a strong enthusiasm and passion for making kokeshi dolls, and from his efforts to improve the quality of his works, he even seemed to be putting his entire existence on kokeshi.
