A vintage shikishi card featuring a beautifully minimalist depiction of two Japanese red-crowned cranes (丹頂鶴, tanchozuru), which are symbols of longevity, fidelity, and good fortune in Japanese culture. The crane is believed to live for a thousand years, making it a powerful symbol of long life and even immortality.

The background is rendered in gold colour, a classic and elegant choice that evokes a sense of celebration, reverence, and beauty. The cranes are stylized with smooth, flowing lines and a limited color palette: primarily white with black necks and accents, and striking red caps on their heads, true to the bird’s natural appearance.

To the upper right of the artwork are two vertically written kanji characters: 祥雲 (shōun). This phrase translates to "auspicious clouds" or "lucky clouds", a poetic and classical expression in East Asian culture that symbolizes a good omen, peace, and prosperity. These characters further reinforce the painting’s themes of hope, happiness, and good fortune.

Size: 24 x 27cm
