Green Snake & Flowers Chigiri-e (Year of the Snake) created using a layered fabric collage technique. The scene is delicately accented with seasonal wildflowers, including yellow blossoms and buds, symbolizing new life, prosperity, and transformation.
Green Snake (蛇 – Hebi) The coiled green snake with a small red tongue is the focal point of the composition. In Japanese culture, the snake is a sacred creature often associated with wisdom, renewal, protection from misfortune, and financial luck. It is also one of the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac, representing the Year of the Snake (巳年 – Midoshi).
Below the snake, the arrangement of yellow and red-hued flowers and buds evoke the arrival of spring or the awakening of life after winter. They enhance the sense of hope, rebirth, and gentle energy. The pale green textured background creates a serene and natural setting for the imagery. The minimalist style and use of washi textures give the artwork a light, elegant atmosphere typical of traditional Japanese seasonal greeting boards.
