SHP29 - Original calligraphy Shikishi card
A vintage calligraphy artwork card by Ikuo Watanabe, a very interesting poem wrote by himself.
“When the drizzle resumes, on the Tottori Sand Dunes I pick up a dark matsuhodo (fungus).”
Through the barrenness of the dunes and the nourishing rain create a contrast, symbolizing "the struggle for life in a harsh environment." The black matsuhodo (fungus) usually grows from a dark and wet environment, this may represent something precious —perhaps memories or hope.
Even if everything in life is Impermanence, we can still find reasons to persevere in happy memories or hopes.
The Shikishi card is a traditional Japanese art medium, historically used for the elegant display of poetry, calligraphy, and paintings. In modern times, Shikishi cards are not only used for formal art forms but also as souvenirs, gifts, and autographs. They have become a popular medium for well-wishes or commemorations, given their decorative quality.
