MK001 - Kannon Mask from Kōryū-ji

temple of the Shingon sect located in Ukyo Ward , Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The mountain name is "Haioka Mountain". The founder of this temple is Qin Hesheng , Prince Shotoku . One of the Seven Great Temples founded by Prince Shotoku , it is the oldest temple in Kyoto that existed before the capital was moved to Heiankyo. It is famous for its collection of the half-legged statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva, a national treasure.

The Kannon mask in Japan symbolizes Kannon Bosatsu (観音菩薩), the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Compassion, known as Guanyin in Chinese tradition. Kannon is revered for embodying mercy, kindness, and the willingness to alleviate the suffering of all beings. The mask represents Kannon’s role as a protector and savior who hears the cries of those in need and responds with kindness and support.
