This beautiful Yajiro kokeshi doll was handcrafted by Norio Takeda (武田憲雄), a skilled artisan born on September 27, 1932. Featuring a large, rounded head and a slender cylindrical body, the doll displays the delicate brushwork and warm, expressive character associated with traditional Japanese kokeshi craftsmanship.

The doll's serene face is framed by black hair adorned with vibrant red floral decorations, while its softly narrowed eyes, delicate eyebrows, and tiny red lips create a gentle, contemplative expression. The body is finished in a warm golden-yellow tone, decorated with bold red brushstrokes and finely painted horizontal bands in red and black. The natural wood grain and subtle variations in the hand-painted surface further enhance its rustic charm.

Norio Takeda was born on September 27, 1932, as the eldest son of Yoshinosuke Takeda, a merchant. He became connected to an established family of kokeshi artisans through his marriage to Toshiko, daughter of Sanai Niiyama (新山左内). His brother-in-law, Sakyo Niiyama (新山左京), was also a recognised kokeshi craftsman.

The family's woodworking tradition continued into the next generation when Takeda's eldest son, Noriyoshi, began training under his father in 2008. By January 2010, Noriyoshi had devoted himself professionally to kokeshi making, carrying forward the family's craftsmanship.
