A woman kokeshi master Kinu Asakura. She was born on April 5, 1918, as the eldest daughter of Asakura Eishiro in Yamaguchi Village, Nishichikuma District, Nagano Prefecture. Her father, Eishiro, was the younger brother of Sato Shugo's wife Ishi of Togatta, and worked at the quarry office in Yamaguchi Village at the time.
In July 1943, she married Eiji, the younger brother of Sato Seisuke of Togatta. She had three sons with Eiji, including Hideyuki, Mitsuhiro, and Kimiaki. In 1947, she moved to Sendai with Eiji and began painting new types of kokeshi dolls, which were in high demand at the time. Around 1966, the second kokeshi boom began to attract attention to traditional kokeshi dolls, and Eiji also fell ill and found it difficult to paint, so Kinu began to paint wooden dolls made by Sato Teruo and others in the same style as Eiji.
