Kyuya Sato born November 16, 1935 in Fukushima City. Adopted son-in-law of Sato Sashima Yoshiku. He trained in wood carving under his father-in-law from November 1963 to 1967. He began making kokeshi in April 1966. In May 1968, at the recommendation of Shikama Tokio, he saw a Kumematsu doll from Tamayama Isamu's collection "The Beauty of Kokeshi" (published in the original color version) and studied it academically before making one. Around 1982, Akihiro Konno became an apprentice to Sashima Sato, but since Sashima hardly used the wheel at that time, Hisaya mainly taught him. Around 2001, the car he was driving was rear-ended by a truck in front of his home in Arai, Fukushima City, and he suffered a skull fracture and lived a disabled life, and since then he has not made any kokeshi dolls. He had been in and out of hospital for a long time, but passed away on July 24th, 2016, aged 82. Size: 19.5cm tall
