Shoji Suzuki born on August 3, 1927, as the eldest son of Suzuki Kiyoshi, a toy merchant and woodworker in Yonezawa City, and Mineko. After graduating from junior high school in April 1942, he joined the Naval Aviation Technical Arsenal in Yokohama, where he worked as a designer, but at the end of the war, he joined Kyoei Woodworks in Shiroishi in 1945, where he learned woodworking techniques. In Sendai, he carved new types of kokeshi dolls, but in April 1953, he became independent. He commuted to his newly built home nearby and ran his business there until around 2008. He passed away on October 11, 2015, at the age of 89.
