Naoki Sato born on August 18, 1929, in Kamasaki, Fukuoka Village, Katta County, Miyagi Prefecture (present-day Kamasaki Onsen, Shiroishi City) as the eldest son (second son: Hiroshi, third son: Masahiro) of Sato Masao. He began training in woodworking in 1941, but soon became a lathe operator at a munitions factory. After the war, in 1945, he resumed training in woodturning. Around 1955, he got married and had a daughter. In 1962, he became the manager of the Ichijo Ryokan branch in front of Shiroishi Station, and stopped making pottery. He revived in 1972, but closed down in 1989. He moved to Heiwa-cho, Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where his daughter had married. He passed away there on April 30, 2005 at the age of 78.
