A vintage Donko Kokeshi signed Misao (操), featuring a delightful bobble-head design and beautifully hand-painted traditional Japanese clothing.
This wooden doll features a large, rounded head with gently closed eyes, delicate eyebrows, and a peaceful expression. Its distinctive black hairstyle is topped with a small traditional-style hat, adding to its playful character.
The body is decorated with a beautifully painted kimono featuring geometric patterns, delicate floral details, and a vibrant green obi (sash). The combination of warm natural wood, muted earthy tones, and subtle green accents creates a harmonious and nostalgic appearance.
A particularly charming feature is its movable bobble head, which gently wobbles when touched, giving the doll a lively and playful personality.
Unlike conventional regional kokeshi, which follow established forms, Donko-style souvenir kokeshi often incorporate imaginative shapes, traditional costumes, and playful mechanical details. Such designs reflect the creativity of Japanese folk craftsmanship and the nostalgic appeal of Shōwa-era souvenir dolls.
