A charming Yajirō-style Kokeshi signed Kazumi 一美, featuring a wonderfully innocent, childlike expression and vibrant hand-painted decorations.
This delightful wooden doll has a large, rounded head with gently closed eyes, delicately curved eyebrows, and a tiny red mouth. Its simple, almost naïve facial features give it a peaceful, dreamlike appearance, reminiscent of a child's drawing.
The slender cylindrical body is decorated with bold, colourful patterns in bright yellow, red, green, and purple, creating a playful contrast with the natural wood. The head features traditional painted hair ornaments and colourful floral details, while the concentric rings on top reflect the decorative characteristics associated with Yajirō kokeshi.
Yajirō Kokeshi originate from the Yajirō district of Shiroishi, Miyagi Prefecture, in Japan's Tōhoku region. This traditional style is particularly admired for its colourful geometric decorations, distinctive head patterns, and expressive facial painting.
