This set of Sōsaku Kokeshi inspired by Nipopo Dolls (ニポポ人形) beautifully blends modern creative interpretation with the cultural heritage of northern Japan.
Originating from the Ainu traditions of Hokkaido, Nipopo dolls were historically carved as protective figures, believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. In this pair, that symbolic legacy is reimagined through the lens of sōsaku kokeshi craftsmanship, resulting in forms that are both sculptural and expressive.
Each figure is carved with a compact, stacked silhouette, featuring stylized faces with closed, meditative eyes and calm expressions, evoking a sense of quiet strength and spiritual presence.
