K10211 - Omiyage Kokeshi from Shūshūkai 蒐集會

K10211 - Omiyage Kokeshi from Shūshūkai 蒐集會

This pair of omiyage kokeshi embodies the gentle warmth and refined simplicity of mid-century Japanese folk craftsmanship, presented together with their original box and accompanying leaflet.

Each doll features a softly rounded head with delicately painted expressions—narrow, half-closed eyes, fine brows, and small red lips—conveying a calm and affectionate mood. Subtle distinctions, such as the colored hair ornaments and kimono collars, give each figure its own personality while maintaining a harmonious balance as a pair.

Their cylindrical bodies are wrapped in richly textured fabric of traditional kimono textiles, rendered in subdued golden tones that lend a quiet elegance. Decorative cords tied around the lower portion suggest obi sashes, enhancing the impression of clothed figures and adding a tactile, handcrafted quality.

This set is associated with the こけし蒐集會 (Kokeshi Shūshūkai, “Kokeshi Collectors’ Society”), as indicated by the original packaging and leaflet. Such groups played an important role in the appreciation and preservation of kokeshi culture during the mid-20th century, encouraging collecting, study, and the sharing of regional styles. Pieces connected to these societies were often distributed to members or created with collectors in mind.
