This folk doll is a delightful example of a regional omiyage (souvenir) craft from Kagoshima Prefecture, representing the traditional おごじょ人形(Ogojo Ningyō), a term affectionately referring to a local girl or young woman in the Kagoshima dialect.

Crafted in a playful わらべ人形 (warabe ningyō) style, meaning “child doll” this figurine captures the innocence and hard-working spirit of rural life in southern Japan. The child is depicted wearing a traditional white hachimaki (head cloth), inscribed with the word おごじょ, and is dressed in a bright indigo blue farmer's outfit, accented with white cross-stitch patterns and red detailing.

Cradled in her arms is an oversized daikon radish, a symbol of sustenance and simplicity in Japanese agricultural culture. The doll's rounded cheeks, subtle expression, and slightly blushed face give it an endearing presence. These types of figures were often sold as nostalgic, heartwarming souvenirs that celebrate the everyday life and culture of Kagoshima’s countryside.

Size: 9 x 5 x 10.5cm
