K10118 - Vintage omiyage kokeshi doll 日本ライン
A vintage omiyage kokeshi display features a pair of miniature wooden dolls: one boy and one girl peacefully dozing inside heart-shaped cutouts. Seated with knees drawn in and arms folded over, the figures are dressed in tiny traditional-style garments and delicately painted with closed eyes and gentle expressions. They are mounted on a rectangular wooden plaque with the phrase “日本ライン” (Nihon Line)
日本ライン (Nihon Line) refers to a scenic stretch of the Kiso River (木曽川) that flows between Inuyama in Aichi Prefecture and Ena in Gifu Prefecture. The name was coined in the early 20th century and draws inspiration from the famous Rhine River in Europe—with "ライン" being the katakana transliteration of "Rhine." With its whimsical design and nostalgic romantic flair, this piece reflects the lighthearted spirit of mid-Showa era travel souvenirs. The tiny loop at the top allows for wall hanging, or it can be displayed on its own stand.
