FT69 - Bamboo Omiyage folktoy︱Kenroku-en 兼六園
A Vintage Kenroku-en Souvenir. Miniature Kago Palanquin is a souvenir toy from Kenroku-en (兼六園), one of Japan’s most famous gardens located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. Kenroku-en is celebrated for its seasonal beauty, and vintage souvenirs like this were popular keepsakes for visitors. The kago was a traditional mode of transportation used by aristocrats and samurai, carried by bearers on either side. This miniature version captures the historical essence of travel in Japan, with a delicate bamboo structure, painted details, and decorative tassels adding an authentic touch. Inside the miniature kago (palanquin) are two small kokeshi-style wooden dolls, representing a traditional traveling couple from Japan’s Edo period. These hand-painted figures wear classic attire. The figure wears a sugegasa (straw hat) and a simple kimono, evoking the image of a traveler or pilgrim. Size: 18 x 7 x 9 cm
