FT249 - Shōfuku Eto Snake Figurine by Yakushigama 薬師窯

A Shōfuku Eto (招福干支) figurine crafted by the esteemed Yakushigama (薬師窯) kiln. Celebrated for its artistry and over 1,000 years of ceramic tradition. Crafted in the heart of Seto — one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (日本六古窯) — Yakushigama is especially known for its charming zodiac figurines and lucky bells.

his unique piece features a smiling white snake (hebi, 巳)—the zodiac animal for the Year of the Snake—coiled atop a layered pedestal that hosts the Shichifukujin (七福神), or Seven Lucky Gods.

Each tier of the coiled serpent displays hand-painted miniature figures of the seven deities of fortune—Ebisu, Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Fukurokuju, Hotei, and Jurōjin—each revered in Japanese culture for bringing different types of luck such as wealth, happiness, wisdom, and longevity. Surrounding them are red seals inscribed with auspicious blessings like "福" (good fortune), "金運" (financial luck), and "足運" (success in endeavors).

The snake, in Japanese tradition, symbolizes transformation, protection, and renewal, and when paired with the Seven Lucky Gods, this figure becomes a vibrant talisman of multifaceted good fortune. Crafted with Yakushigama’s signature attention to detail, this figurine is both a joyful collectible and a meaningful seasonal display item, especially during New Year's or for those born in a Snake year.
