FT246 - Cast Iron Kigan Daruma 祈願だるま

FT246 - Cast Iron Kigan Daruma 祈願だるま

A gold-painted cast iron Daruma doll (達磨), an iconic symbol of resilience, determination, and good fortune in Japanese culture. Crafted from solid cast iron, this particular Daruma is distinguished by its shimmering golden surface and expressive hand-painted face, conveying a powerful sense of intensity and resolve. The Daruma’s rounded shape, traditionally designed to return upright when tipped, embodies the Japanese proverb 「七転び八起き」(nanakorobi yaoki) — “fall down seven times, get up eight” — which represents perseverance through adversity.

This is a Kigan Daruma 祈願だるま, a wish-granting or prayer Daruma, used in spiritual or goal-setting practices. Cast in iron, this Daruma stands out from the more common papier-mâché types, offering a tactile sense of weight and permanence — suitable for display in both traditional and modern interiors. The golden hue adds an auspicious touch, as gold in Japanese symbolism represents wealth, success, and celebration.

Presented on a deep blue felt and black resin plate, this Daruma is not only a meaningful cultural icon but also a refined decorative object.

Size: 12 x 12 x 12cm
23 x 16 x 2.5cm (Plate)
