This is a traditional Japanese Shogi set, often referred to as Japanese Chess. Each piece is meticulously hand-carved from wood and individually hand-painted with calligraphy, displaying both black and red ink to denote promoted pieces. Each shaped in the classic pentagonal style, tapering at the top to distinguish orientation during play.
The pieces come in their original wooden storage box, which shows an aged natural patina, enhancing its authenticity and vintage charm. The box is decorated with Japanese kanji characters and a red seal, reflecting traditional artistry.
Compared with modern Japanese shogi, this set has 39 chess only. Please refer to the quantity shown in the photos. Selling as a collectible.
