This charming Kyoto ceramic hina doll set (京陶人形・小さな雛人形) is the work of renowned artisan Shimoda Kaho 嶌田香甫, known for her delicate and refined approach to traditional Japanese doll-making.

Set on a rich red lacquered platform adorned with the design of Hanaguruma 花車 (literally means "flower cart" or "floral carriage), the cart "overflowing" with flowers can also signify abundance, joy, and a bountiful future.

The pair represents the classic Emperor (男雛 / obina) and Empress (女雛 / mebina) in full ceremonial attire, as celebrated during Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day or Doll Festival) in Japan. The figures are hand-formed and painted with exquisite care, the emperor in a deep indigo robe with gold details, and the empress in a vivid red kimono with elegant floral accents. Between them stands a graceful gold screen (byōbu) evoking the regal atmosphere of the imperial court.

The set includes the original signature plaque and presentation box with a traditional Kyoto-style textured finish.

Size: 4x 3x 4.5cm
14 x 10cm (Plate)
