This charming vintage Kaga doll features Kintarō—a beloved figure from Japanese folklore—depicted in a traditional, rounded form typical of Kaga Ningyō 加賀人形・金太郎鯛抱き, a local folk craft originating from Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture. 加賀人形 (Kaga Ningyō) are a distinctive style of traditional Japanese dolls that originate from Kanazawa, the historical capital of Kaga Domain (present-day Ishikawa Prefecture). These dolls are known for their graceful appearance, refined craftsmanship, and deeply rooted cultural symbolism, reflecting the aesthetics of a region once famed for its samurai culture, art patronage, and courtly elegance. Kintarō, often portrayed as a child of great strength and courage, is shown here with a serene smile and wearing a gold-painted kabuto (helmet), a detail that nods to his future as a mighty warrior. His black side-locks and red decorative cords add a delightful touch of traditional character and charm. This piece is made of ceramic and finished with soft, hand-painted features. It sits atop a wooden base and comes with its original signed kiri-wood box (桐箱), which is marked with the artist’s signature and stamps, adding cultural and collectible value. Both decorative and symbolic, this piece celebrates the spirit of youth, strength, and auspicious fortune, perfect as a collector’s item, seasonal display, or a nostalgic gift from traditional Japan. Size: 5.5 x 6.5 x 9cm 9 x 7 x 11cm (Box)
