FT16 - Vintage Japanese toy castanet

Vintage castanet made of hardwood,. A percussion instrument (idiophone), held in the hand and used to produce rhythmic clicks or rattling sounds. With the string hooked over the thumb and the castanets resting on the palm with the fingers bent over to support the other side. The player then uses the fingers to click the two halves of the castanets together.

The tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) is also a strange yokai (Japanese ghost or spirit) famous for its ability to transform in Japanese folklore. It is mischievous and lovable, possessing a lot of magic but primarily harmless to humans. The tanuki is known as the mascot of prosperity in Japan. A golden sticker on top written ”Kyoto” and the the bottom sticker written “National Tourism Souvenirs”.
