FT153 - Vintage omiyage kokeshi from Kintaikyō
This vintage Japanese folk craft is a charming omiyage (souvenir) from Kintaikyō (錦帯橋), the famed historical wooden arch bridge in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Hand-assembled and painted with care, this piece captures the scenic beauty of the iconic five-arched bridge, a marvel of traditional Japanese carpentry and a cherished cultural landmark.
On one end of the base stands a pair of adorable kokeshi-style figures, a boy and girl in kimono greeting visitors with sweet, nostalgic charm. Beside them, a stylized black pagoda and a pine tree evoke the tranquil setting of the surrounding landscape, often visited for cherry blossoms in spring and vivid maple leaves in autumn. The wooden post with engraved characters further anchors the setting as Iwakuni.
