CB122 - Dorei Clay Bell from Ise Jingū 伊勢神宮
CB122 - Dorei Clay Bell from Ise Jingū 伊勢神宮
This unglazed boar-shaped dorei (clay bell) from Ise Jingū embodies the spirit of courage, determination, and protection. Sculpted from natural reddish clay and left with a raw, earthy finish, the minimalist form captures the essence of the wild boar—an animal revered in Japan as a symbol of strength and progress, especially associated with the zodiac sign Inoshishi (亥).
The gentle contours of the boar are complemented by the crisp white braided cord and the official seal of Ise Jingū impressed on its side, marking its authenticity as a sacred charm. When gently shaken, the bell produces a warm, subtle chime, often believed to dispel misfortune and invite good fortune.
Sold at Ise Jingū, one of Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu-Ōmikami, these bells are popular during New Year or for those born in the year of the boar, serving as auspicious talismans and timeless keepsakes.
