This is a vintage dorei (clay bell) in the shape of a white sacred horse, known as shinme (神馬), originating from Meiji Jingū (明治神宮) in Tokyo. Gracefully sculpted with smooth curves and painted in white with golden hooves, mane, and tail, the horse is depicted mid-gallop over a green base, capturing a sense of divine vitality and purity.

On the side of its body is a red seal that reads 明治神宮 (Meiji Jingū) located in the heart of Tokyo, one of Japan’s most significant Shinto shrines, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken.

In Shinto belief, the sacred horse is regarded as a divine messenger, and this bell serves as both an offering and a talisman for protection, prosperity, and safe journeys. The soft chime it produces when shaken adds to its charm, making it a meaningful piece of traditional Japanese folk craft and spiritual culture.

Size: 10 x 4 x 7.5cm
