CB093 - Dorei Clay Bell Hina Ningyo 雛人形

CB093 - Dorei Clay Bell Hina Ningyo 雛人形

This vintage dorei clay bell represents a Hina Ningyo (雛人形), styled after the elegant court figures of the Heian period (794–1185), a golden era of refinement in Japanese history. Traditionally displayed during Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day), these dolls are believed to offer blessings of health, happiness, and protection to young girls.

Shaped with gentle curves and a serene expression, this bell portrays a male court figure (Odairi-sama) wearing a formal white robe adorned with hand-painted green pine motifs, a symbol of longevity and endurance. His dignified appearance is completed with a golden court hat and a black lacquered ceremonial baton, evoking the formal regalia of the imperial court. The surface has a softly speckled white finish, evoking both purity and age-old grace.

Inside the figure is a small clay pellet that produces a delicate chime when shaken — a feature long associated with warding off misfortune and drawing in good luck. As both a decorative item and spiritual charm, this piece beautifully embodies the harmony of tradition, artistry, and seasonal celebration that defines Japanese folk craft.

Size: 8 x 8 x 9cm
