CB007 - Clay bell ornament Dorei Rat
Vintage Japanese clay bell ornament a rat (nezumi) holding a gold coin and sitting on a bundle of rice straw (komedawara).
The rat is one of the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac (eto) and symbolizes prosperity, intelligence, and fertility. The rice bundle represents abundance and wealth, while the gold coin signifies good fortune. This type of dorei is often used as a talisman for luck and prosperity. The red cord adds a decorative touch and allows it to be hung as a charm. It’s written 開運 (kaiun) on the side, in English translates to “opening luck” or “bringing good fortune.”
Dorei is a traditional handcrafted bell made from clay or ceramic, these bells produce a soft, pleasant sound when shaken. Often sold at shrines or festivals as charms to ward off evil and bring good fortune. The sound of the bell is believed to purify the surrounding environment and attract positive energy.
