The Tokyo Kokeshi Tomo-no-kai is a long-established association devoted to the study, collecting and preservation of traditional Japanese kokeshi. Its journal Kokeshi Techō documents craftsmen, regional traditions, historical research, exhibitions, collecting activities and personal recollections from within Japan’s kokeshi community.
This issue is especially interesting for its material on Tatsuo Hasegawa, its visit to renowned woodblock artist Umetarō Azechi, the continuation of the Oku no Hosomichi kokeshi travel series, and an article connecting Dr. Takashi Nagai with kokeshi culture. Vintage issues such as this are valuable reference material for collectors and researchers, preserving specialist information that can be difficult to find in modern publications.
