Papier-maché

Japanese papier-mâché, called hariko (張り子), is a traditional craft made by layering paper and natural glue over a mold, then drying and painting it. This technique has been used for centuries to create toys, dolls, masks, and decorative ornaments. Hariko items are lightweight yet durable and often brightly colored with playful or symbolic designs. Popular examples include Daruma dolls for perseverance and Inuhariko (dog figures) for protection and good fortune.
